Congratulations to Professor Barrett AM who has been inducted into the inaugural Ophthalmologist Power List Hall of Fame alongside nine other esteemed ophthalmologists. This list highlights ophthalmologists and scientists whose impact on the field will last beyond their lifetimes.
From the moment he set his sights on completing his residency in ophthalmology, Professor Barrett has made extensive and varied contributions to the field.
A pioneer and leader both within his home country of Australia and overseas, Professor Barrett has dedicated his career to improving cataract and refractive surgery, and patient outcomes. He has developed numerous pioneering instruments, co-founded the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and has been the recipient of multiple awards.
Professor Barrett is widely known for developing the Barrett Universal II Formula which is a mathematical equation that uses several parameters to calculate the intraocular lens power needed to replace the natural lens during cataract surgery. The formula is globally recognised and used to improve the refractive accuracy outcomes of cataract surgery.
