The Functional Molecular Vision research group has started recruiting Perth children living with myopia for an ongoing study into both the genetic variance and environmental risk factors associated with early-onset myopia to gain an understanding of the most predominant risk among our local community.
Understanding the greatest risk factors within our community provides evidence that will contribute to the development of policy reform for the prevention of myopia in schools.
Furthermore, we aim to better understand how early-onset high myopia progresses so that novel personalised treatment strategies can be developed for those who have strong genetic risk.
